What does “Digital for Life” mean to youths today? We invited primary and secondary school students to share their visions with us through the Digital for Life Art and Video Competitions, encouraging youth engagement and inspiring them to be part of the Digital for Life movement. Through their creations, the students illustrated their take on how digital technology can forge connections, deepen learning, and empower them for a digital future.

The excitement peaked at the Digital for Life Festival 2024 at Heartbeat@Bedok, where Ms. Doreen Tan, Assistant Chief Executive of Strategic Planning and Digital Readiness at the Infocomm Media Development Authority (IMDA), presented the prizes to the winners.

Art Competition

Primary school students shared vibrant visions of digital technology as a bridge in their art creations—connecting people, empowering communities, and transforming our world. Lin Xinyu, who took home the top prize with Connecting Generations Through Digital Living, depicts her mother helping her grandmother navigate digital apps in her art, emphasising how everyone, young and old, can be empowered by technology.

Fellow winners of the Art Competition tapped on their imagination and everyday experiences in creating their pieces. Amelia Ri-En Maniam, First Runner-Up in the category, draws from current clothing trends worn by celebrities to imagine fashion and futuristic elements coming together in Digital Infused Fashion. Meanwhile, Second Runner-Up Chua Rui Xian Dara takes inspiration from how technology plays a part in her daily life with What Happens Every Day. Dara’s work illustrates her family’s digital habits, emphasising that family time away from screens is as important as using digital devices to learn, create, play, and stay connected with each other.

Video Competition

The Video Competition brought out equally unique perspectives from secondary school students, who showcased their creativity through imaginative video creations. Winner Therese Ng Jin Hui adds an out-of-this-world twist with her video Alien Insights: Exploring Digital Life, where aliens observe human tech habits, humorously highlighting just how technology has become part of our lives and the possibilities that technology offers.

Inspired by the growing importance of digital literacy, First Runner-Up Abdul Najeer Nafisa Afrin’s Let Us Connect Digitally focuses on how digital tools can bring people closer and simplify lives, while encouraging people to use these tools responsibly. In a similar vein, Second Runner-Up Chua Xin En Cara’s How the Internet Impacts Our Daily Lives serves as a reminder that while technology is a valuable tool, there is much to enjoy in life beyond screens.
