As the new generation gets immersed in technology, parents can help safeguard their children from the threat of cyberbullying by following these six key steps:
- Create a safe space for conversation – Encourage your child to talk about their online experiences without fear of judgment.
- Educate and empower – Teach your child about online etiquette, privacy, and how to spot and report cyberbullying.
- Set clear boundaries – Agree on rules for screen time, app use, privacy settings, and whom your child interacts with online.
- Monitor online activity – With transparency, use parental tools and occasionally review your child’s online interactions to spot warning signs.
- Encourage offline activities – Balance screen time with sports, hobbies, and in-person socialising to reduce exposure.
- Teach resilience – Help your child handle hurtful comments by not internalising them and seeking for emotional support when needed.
By combining conversations, setting boundaries, supervision, and resilience-building, parents can create a safer and more supportive online environment for their children.
