Doomscrolling is an act of endless scrolling online and while it can help us to stay informed on the latest news, it can form a habit that causes a cycle of stress and anxiety, making us feel helpless. It’s often made worse by social media platforms showing more negative content to keep users hooked. Over time, doomscrolling can also lead to less productivity and a feeling of wasted time.

To protect yourself from doomscrolling, you can adopt the following 5 tips:

  1. Have a goal before you go online – Know what you’re looking for so you don’t end up endlessly scrolling.
  2. Limit your screen time – Use app timers or set alarms to remind yourself to take breaks.
  3. Follow positive content – Choose accounts that make you feel happy, inspired, or relaxed.
  4. Check in with yourself – Notice how you’re feeling while scrolling. If you’re feeling down, it’s okay to stop and do something else.
  5. Ask for help – If doomscrolling is affecting your mental health, don’t hesitate to reach out for help. You can talk to trusted friends, family, or seek professional support.
