Teaching online safety to young children is more important than ever. Inspired by this need, students from Ngee Ann Polytechnic created a delightful storybook featuring Otis the Otter, designed to guide preschoolers through essential online safety lessons. The story revolves around Otis’s exciting journey with his new tablet, received as a birthday gift, and the valuable lessons he learns along the way.
Otis was over the moon with his shiny new tablet, imagining all the fun videos he could explore. However, while Otis was thrilled, his dad felt a bit worried about the responsibilities that came with using such a device. Fortunately, his mum was prepared and ready to help Otis navigate this new adventure safely.
In the first story, Otis learned the importance of seeking permission before diving into the digital world. The second story introduced the family tech agreement, helping Otis understand the rules for safe tablet use. In the final story, Otis encountered a scary image while watching a video, prompting him to check in with his parents for guidance.
Through these three mini-stories, Otis learned valuable lessons about online safety. With Otis as their guide, young readers can be empowered to explore the digital world safely!
