Synopsis:
A Love Too Good to Be True follows the emotional unravelling of a victim ensnared in a romance scam. What begins as an online connection full of promise slowly reveals manipulation and deceit. As trust turns into exploitation, the victim must confront the painful truth and reclaim her strength. This story highlights the emotional tactics of romance scammers and delivers a clear warning: real love doesn’t ask for money. Always stay vigilant and protect yourself, especially when interacting with people you met online.
A Love Too Good to Be True, created by students from Yio Chu Kang Secondary School, won 1st place at the Better Internet Video Challenge 2025.
The Better Internet Video Challenge 2025, organised by Yishun Innova Junior College (Centre of Excellence for Digital Literacies) in collaboration with the Media Literacy Council, invites students to create short films that educate audiences about and advocate for digital safety and wellness
In response to this year’s theme, “Empowering a Safe and Resilient Online Community,” these young creators showed how everyone can play a part in staying safe online, supporting peers, and responding thoughtfully to online harm.
